Our Program's Vision

Askiy Nanakacihtakewin Stewardship Program is dedicated to the conservation of land, water, and wildlife in and around York Landing, Manitoba. Our program embodies the spirit of watching out for and taking care of the lands, waters, wildlife, plants, and people of the land.

We aim to raise awareness, promote sustainable practices, and foster a deep connection with nature. Through collaborative efforts and community engagement, we strive to create a more harmonious and balanced environment for our present and future generations.

Welcome to the Askiy Nanakacihtakewin Stewardship Program, a collaborative team of 10 dedicated individuals working together to steward and care for the land. Our team is passionate about making a positive impact and we're excited to share our work with you.

Program Coordinator
The program coordinator combines leadership experience with on-the-land knowledge.
Leads the planning, development and program goals and objectives for the stewardship program.

Technical Facilitator
The technical facilitator provides technical support to the program and facilitates all technical aspects of the program. Archives and manages spatial data using GIS, creating and printing maps. Works in collaboration with Guardians.

Logan Beardy
Bookkeeper
The bookkeeper manages payroll and benefits to AN staff.

Issues payments for purchases, honoraria and invoices.
Keeps records of all program
income and expenses.

M&HH Coordinator
The Mercury & Human Health Coordinator educates community members on the impact of hydro-electric projects on mercury levels in fish. Creating community calendars, promote cultural heritage and our Cree language.

The Guardians consistently patrol, monitor, and maintain a visible presence on the lands and waters.
They also conduct research and gather data on the resources they oversee.

Harvest Coordinator
The harvest coordinator plays a vital role in promoting and delivering programs on harvesting. Provides harvested food for the community.
This includes organizing training workshops and seasonal harvesting activities. Works in collaboration
with guardians.

& Custodian
The harvest coordinator assistant helps with all harvesting related activities. 

The custodian maintains cleanliness, safety, and order of building. Cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, repairs, and inventory management.
